Dear bangkokians, to those of you who, like me, are not originally from here: do you remember what went through your mind when you knew you would be moving to Krung Thep?
In the first few hours after getting the news, the images stored in my mind from my previous trips to Bangkok came back to me! What an excitement. That also meant that after spending a rather cold winter in Paris, I would enjoy something I did miss a lot: THE SUN. And on a regular basis, a pool or the sea to jump in, some affordable massages, and delicious food: the perfect recipe for an enjoyable week-end. So there I was launching all kinds of Google searches to plan a new life and traveling around Bangkok.
So when my husband and I moved here, the first “welcome gift” to ourselves was a discovery week-end near Bangkok.
We picked Hua Hin, as it seemed to be a destination Bangkokians would conveniently go to. It is about 3hours drive from Bangkok on a normal day (not on a public holiday).
This is also known as the area where King Rama VI built a house in the 1920’s and where, since then, the members of the Royal family would spend their summer holidays.
We still have yet to discover more of the area, but the idea that time was to disconnect, treat ourselves to a relaxing stay, far from the crowd, at our own pace and recharge our batteries to be ready to start a new chapter in our lives.
While searching for a secluded and heavenly accommodation in Hua Hin, I came across this very picture (below) which set my mind to it pretty instantly!
The offer at Evason Hua Hin combines few elements that are relevant to us:
It qualifies as an “eco-friendly” resort as the Six Senses group has a global policy around sustainability. Since 1995, they have taken serious commitments to reduce their impact on the environment. You can read more on this page.
They offer different categories of accommodations including one suitable for couples. If you are looking for some privacy, the Pool Villa is the right choice as it offers a personal pool, as well as an outdoor bathtub!
Tempting F&B offer
Several options for Food & Beverages, including Thai & international menus. If you want extra privacy, they can arrange a “Candlelit” dinner in your villa.
We really liked “The bar” by the beachfront, as it is laid-back, you can chill in their big sofas while enjoying the breeze from the sea (and the fans on the ceiling). You will find a good variety of staple dishes (thai and western). They also have vegan and gluten-free options.
I particularly liked their grilled fish which went perfectly with the Australian wine “Stone Fish” we ordered in the evening.
On the below pictures are a Papaya salad with grilled chicken, a Vegetarian red curry and a traditional Pad thai.
For those who want to learn plant-based thai cuisine, the hotel offers some thai cooking classes with their local chefs. You can find more about it by checking “Blue Lotus Hua Hin“.
In a country spoilt with choice when it comes to massages and wellness offers, I was wondering how Six Senses would stand out.
I have to say that their Spa & Wellness menu is convincing. Not only they have regular massages on their menu, but Evason Hua Hin also provides special therapies for detox (Puriti detox), balancing and cleansing (Yogic intestinal cleanse) and even intensive yoga retreats.
I find the offer at Evason quite adapted to a week-end gateway as this is a typical 2-day programme they can arrange for you:
Day 1 – “Raw Food” day
1 pm: Healthy & Detox Lunch
4 pm: Private Tai Chi Class
5 pm: Steam & Sauna + 60 min Chi Nei Tsang Massage*
7 pm: Healthy & Detox Dinner
Day 2 – ” Juice Cleanse + Puriti Box” Day
8.30 am: Private Tai Chi Class
9.30 am: Steam & Sauna + 60 min Detox Massage
4.30 pm: 30 min Detox Bath
Note: Food supplements & fresh juices will be served several times on day 2
Day 3 – Before checking out
7.30 am: Healthy breakfast buffet
8.45 am: 60 min Personalized Guided Meditation
*Combination of Chinese and Thai massage with some meditation techniques. It focuses on the abdomen and it promotes detoxifying and energising.
I find that Evason is a great option if you are looking for both detoxing / taking care of yourself and have a good time, in a relaxed yet enjoyable environment. It is a great combination of these two atmospheres. While some health resorts could sometimes have too much of a clinical feel and other luxury resorts wouldn’t have a sophisticated Spa and wellness offer, Evason has managed to bring the best of both worlds.
